Local Rehabilitation Program Receives Award
The Inpatient Rehabilitation program at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System Winchester (STRHS Winchester) has received a 2017 Top Performer Award from the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation.
“This is a great honor and accomplishment for our program, “said director Jill Mushett. “Our staff consists of very dedicated physicians, nurses, therapists, nutritionists and a social worker, who pride themselves in the quality of care we provide and the differences we make in each patient’s life.”
The Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation database consist of more than 800 rehab programs across the country, and the STRHS Winchester program ranked in the 97th percentile for their performance. Only 3 percent of the other programs nationwide out performed them.
The scoring for the Top Performer Award is based on indicators for each patient/case and facility level indicators based on whether the patient was discharged back into the community or whether the patient had to be discharged to an acute care facility or long term care. A large percentage of the STRHS Winchester Inpatient Rehab patients are discharged back to the community to their homes. It also measures length of stay and functional change from admission to discharge.
The Inpatient Rehabilitation unit treats patients who have been physically affected by an illness or injury. Some examples of the types of patient’s they treat include stroke, brain or spinal cord injury, joint replacements, amputation, trauma and many other debilitating conditions. The services provided include physical therapy, specialized rehabilitation nursing, occupational therapy, speech therapy nand other medical services.
