Patrick Dean Reading and Book Signing, Sept. 28
Patrick Dean, author of “A Window to Heaven: The Daring First Ascent of Denali, America’s Wildest Peak,” will have a reading and book signing at the Sewanee Bookstore 3-5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 28. The event is in conjunction with Sewanee School of Theology Alumni Lectures & Homecoming.
Dean will read from the book at 3 p.m., with a Q&A to follow, then be available to sign copies until 5 p.m. Masks are required to be worn inside the bookstore.
“A Window to Heaven” is the story of Hudson Stuck, Sewanee-trained Episcopal priest and missionary whose party was the first to summit Denali. Former Vice-Chancellor John McCardell has described it as “a remarkable story, extraordinarily told by Patrick Dean,” and Kirkus Reviews called it “mountaineering and biography in expert hands.”
Dean earned an M.A. in 2006 from the School of Theology, while teaching at St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School. He currently is Executive Director of the Mountain Goat Trail Alliance, and lives in Monteagle with his wife Susan and two dogs. Dean is currently working on his second book, a biography of 18-century naturalist Mark Catesby.
