SAS Kicks Off 45th Year of School
Continuing a tradition of exceptional secondary education on the Mountain that dates back to 1868, St. Andrew’s-Sewanee opened the 2026-2027 school year with students from across Tennessee as well as seven other U.S. states and eight other countries.
Boarding students arrived Friday evening and spent time getting to know each other through a boisterous array of icebreaker activities. All parents and students gathered Saturday for registration and orientation in McCrory Hall for the Performing Arts followed by class activities all around campus. Later, day and boarding students alike enjoyed slip-n-slide organized by this year’s proctors, which provided a fun break from the summer temperatures.
“We’re thrilled to see our returning students and how they have welcomed our new students to campus with their customary warmth,” said Karl Sjolund, head of school. “We’ve also embraced an incredible group of new faculty and staff, and they are fortunate to be joining such a highly talented group of returning faculty and staff members. We have everything we need for a great school year!”
