Friends of Canon Gideon Silent Auction
The community is cordially invited to a Silent Auction, March 11, 5 to 7 p.m., in St. Mark’s Hall of Otey Parish Church, benefitting Hope Institute, a vocational high school near Kampala, Uganda. Now in its 25th year, the school was founded by the Rev. Canon Gideon Byamugisha, who was a Brown Foundation Fellow at Sewanee in 2013 and has since welcomed Sewanee interns to work in the school every summer. African dresses and purses, platters and plates carved by Elvin King’s famous chain saw, pictures made with butterfly wings, antique and contemporary African jewelry, a 12-piece carved soap stone nativity scene, a Thistle Farms gift basket, and a Duluth leather back pack are among the treasures you could claim. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students at the door. Call Sally Hubbard at 598-5338 for more information.
