State parks competing for ‘favorite’ status in January
The annual January fundraising competition among the 56 parks in the Tennessee State Park system is now underway, and the Friends group of the South Cumberland State Park (SCSP) is encouraging park visitors to make their support known through votes and donations.
“For the entire month of January, park supporters may donate to vote for their favorite park. If South Cumberland is your favorite, please donate to vote for SCSP and help raise essential funds to improve your park,” said Trae Moore, president of the Friends of South Cumberland.
All donations to the park will go toward the following 2022 planned projects:
A new aviary for park headquarters
With support from the fundraiser and the Friends, SCSP is seeking to raise $5,000 to construct a new, larger aviary located at the park headquarters in Monteagle.
A new trail bridge at Grundy Forest
With support from the fundraiser and the Friends, the park is hoping to raise $50,000 to replace the aging wooden trail bridge and stairs at Blue Hole Falls on the Grundy Forest Day Loop trail.
New staircases for easier access to Greeter Falls
The park is also seeking to raise $50,000 for two new staircases to provide better and easier access to both the upper and lower falls at Greeter Falls.
